Tanjung Puting National Park, located in Central Kalimantan (Borneo), is one of the best natural destinations, offering a unique experience in the heart of Borneo’s rainforests. Covering 415,000 hectares, the park is not only home to a large population of orangutans but also a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1977. The park is renowned for housing over 30,000 orangutans, one of the world’s most endangered primates. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in lush jungles and learn about orangutan conservation, a trip to Tanjung Puting with Campa Tour is the perfect choice. Campa Tour offers an unforgettable experience, guided by experienced local experts who will lead you through the park’s three main camps: Tanjung Harapan, Pondok Tanggui, and Camp Leakey.

The adventure begins with a unique experience aboard a klotok, a traditional wooden boat that now serves as tourist accommodation. The klotok features two decks: the upper deck, where you’ll sleep under the stars with mattresses and mosquito nets, and the lower deck, which houses the kitchen and crew. During your journey along the Sekonyer River, you’ll be able to enjoy local meals prepared on the boat while taking in the breathtaking views. On Day 1, upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun, you will be transferred to Kumai Port, where your klotok awaits. After boarding, you’ll begin your river cruise toward Tanjung Harapan. After lunch on board, you will visit Tanjung Harapan Camp at 2:40 pm, a former rehabilitation center for young orangutans, now an ecotourism site. Here, you’ll observe rehabilitated orangutans during their feeding time. In the afternoon, you will continue to spot proboscis monkeys from the boat. The evening will feature a short night walk around the camp before you return to the klotok for dinner and rest under the stars.

On Day 2, after breakfast on the boat, you’ll head toward Camp Leakey, a world-renowned research center founded in 1971 by Dr. Birute Galdikas. Camp Leakey is famous for being the site of the longest-running study of any wild non-human animal in history, with over 100,000 hours of orangutan observation. You’ll arrive in time to witness wild orangutans during their feeding session at 2:00 pm. Afterward, you’ll embark on a one-hour jungle trek, learning about the tropical ecosystem along the way. In the evening, you’ll take a relaxing boat ride to spot fireflies lighting up the riverbanks before returning to the klotok for dinner and another peaceful night under the sky.

On the final day, after breakfast on the boat, you’ll begin your return journey to Kumai Port. As you cruise back, take in the serene beauty of the river and surrounding rainforest one last time. Upon arrival at Kumai Port, you will be transferred to the airport or your hotel, concluding your unforgettable adventure in Tanjung Puting.

A tour with Campa Tour offers more than just a wildlife adventure—it’s an opportunity to support crucial conservation efforts for orangutans and their habitat.
